MEET THE TEAM
Joshua Osagiede – Founder
Hi, I’m Joshua! I write in a gothic, traditional style, drawing inspiration from classic literature, mythology, and historical references. My work often explores themes of psychology and philosophy, conveyed through dark, emotional narratives. I enjoy crafting immersive literature rich with language and detail, for a captivating reading experience.
At The Writers Herd, I aim to refine my traditional style for a modern audience, as I believe “old can still be gold” in terms of mainstream appeal. I’m passionate about fostering a vibrant literary community where everyone interested in literature can connect, share, and grow through diverse perspectives. My love for art drives the integration of illustrations and visuals on the website, for an immersive experience.
Ananda Gervais – Contributor
Hi, I’m Ananda! I write contemporary fiction, horror, and free verse poetry, often exploring themes of identity and life experiences with a blend of truth and humor. My work is shaped by my experiences as a queer, neurodivergent woman.
I love sarcastic main characters and making important issues more accessible through my writing.
I hope to bring fresh insights and authenticity to The Writers Herd. Outside of writing, I’m a foodie, a cat lover, and a creative at heart.
Lily Head – Contributor
Hi, I’m Lily! I’m a writer and poetry enthusiast with a soft spot for contemporary literature, modern classics, minimalist short stories, feminist fiction, and ethnic fiction. I enjoy writing in various forms, including songwriting, poetry, prose, as well as book and film reviews. My primary focus is free verse poetry, written through an anthropological and observational lens. I aim to capture the intimacy of emotion and derive insights from both my own experiences and my observations of others. Ultimately, I love writing about people!
Through my work, I’m driven to elevate marginalised voices and express individual experiences, offering solace by reminding others they’re not alone. At The Writers Herd, I hope to bring this approach into my reviews and literary pieces, always keeping an attentive and inclusive eye on everything I create.
Rebecca Budgen – Contributor
Hi, I’m Rebecca! I’m a freelance writer and multidisciplinary artist with a passion for text art. I write short stories, poetry, articles, and scripts in which I often combine science fiction and fantasy elements with various genres. My work explores themes of mental health, socio-political struggles, and environmental issues, incorporating intersectional representation shaped by my experiences as an asexual aromantic person.
I’m passionate about expanding asexual visibility and progressive representation in literature. Through my compassionate and educational writing style, I hope to help other writers and bring inclusivity to The Writers Herd. I’m currently working on a speculative novel exploring mental health and multicultural mythologies.
Sabrina Batouche – Contributor
Hi, I’m Sabrina! I’ve always been an avid reader, which naturally led to a love for writing. As a teenager, I would fill notebooks with poems that reflected my perception of the world and personal experiences. During university, I found my voice through writing short stories, particularly character-driven narratives that focus on real aspects of real people.
I draw inspiration from some of my favourite authors, like Haruki Murakami, Zadie Smith, and Banana Yoshimoto—who all focus on character-driven plots. I’m captivated by stories that elevate ordinary people and situations by highlighting small, often overlooked details.
As a single mum from South London, I’m passionate about building an inclusive literary community. At The Writers Herd, I hope to contribute by uplifting voices that are often unheard and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to share their stories and perspectives.
Illustrators
Mara Wiedner
Hi, I’m Mara, a mixed media artist passionate about expressing emotions through art. While I’m still exploring my unique style, I love experimenting with new techniques. I also enjoy supporting others in their creative journeys, such as The Writers Herd with my illustrations. Currently, I’m focused on traditional surrealism and digital line art, both of which I sometimes incorporate into my tattoo work.
Zyta Gudalewska
Hi, I’m Zyta. I’m a tattoo artist and piercer based at Superqueen Tattoo in Colliers Wood, South London. With a background in jewellery and silversmithing, I love intricate detail and free-flowing organic shapes. In tattooing, I specialise in fine line and black-and-grey illustrative work, and I’m currently expanding into realism. Art allows me to express myself when words fall short, and I bring that passion to my illustrations for The Writers Herd, enhancing stories through my creative vision.
Betty Everett
Hi, I’m Betty, an artist based in London and a recent graduate of Falmouth University’s Illustration course. My work is naive, instinctive, and raw, tapping into the childlike creativity we all carry within us. Inspired by folk art and music, I’ve recently expanded my practice into painting. At The Writers Herd, I aim to bring a fresh, imaginative perspective to complement the storytelling, using art that evokes a sense of expression.
